Tsauchab Dune Camp

Location NamibRand Nature Reserve, Namibia
Capacity 10 guests
Camp Type Desert Lodge

Tsauchab Dune Camp looks out across one of the oldest deserts on Earth, where towering red dunes meet gravel plains and camelthorn trees somehow survive on almost no rainfall at all. Five glass-fronted chalets are positioned for uninterrupted sunset views across the NamibRand Nature Reserve, a certified International Dark Sky Reserve.

By day, guides lead walks and drives in search of the desert’s specialists — oryx, springbok, and the small, secretive creatures adapted to survive here, from fog-basking beetles to the elusive desert chameleon. By night, the camp’s telescope comes out, and an astronomy-trained guide walks guests through skies unpolluted by artificial light for hundreds of kilometres in any direction.

For guests who want to sleep under that sky rather than simply look at it, Tsauchab offers star beds — a wheeled bed rolled onto a private deck, mosquito net optional, blankets essential.
