Every Legson Journeys itinerary is tailor-made, and our travel designers handle the logistics — but here’s a general overview of what to expect when planning a safari with us.
Visas & Documentation
Passport validity requirements (commonly six months beyond your travel dates) and visa rules vary by destination and nationality. We confirm exact requirements for your specific itinerary once it’s finalised, and many of our destination countries offer straightforward e-visa or visa-on-arrival processes.
Health & Vaccinations
We recommend a consultation with a travel health clinic four to six weeks before departure. Malaria prophylaxis is advisable for most safari regions, and yellow fever certification is required for entry to or from certain countries depending on your routing.
What to Pack
Lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for cool mornings and evenings, comfortable closed walking shoes, a sun hat, high-factor sunscreen, and your own binoculars if you have them. Fly-in camps typically enforce soft-bag luggage limits of around 15–20kg — we’ll send a detailed packing list once your trip is confirmed.
Currency & Payments
US Dollars are widely accepted across our safari destinations, alongside local currencies. Most camps accept major credit cards for incidental charges such as spa treatments or premium wine, though it’s wise to carry some cash for tips and curio purchases.
Getting Around
Safari itineraries typically combine an international flight, a domestic connection, and one or more light-aircraft transfers between camps — all arranged as part of your booking. Road transfers are used where distances allow.
Tipping
Tipping is customary throughout Africa’s safari industry and is genuinely appreciated by guides and camp staff, most of whom are drawn from local communities. Your travel designer can advise typical tipping guidelines for your specific itinerary.
Connectivity
Most camps offer Wi-Fi in central areas, though signal in remote bush locations can be limited by design. If reliable connectivity is essential for your trip, let us know and we’ll factor it into camp selection.
