Gorilla Trekking

Trek through misty volcanic and montane rainforest to spend a strictly regulated hour face-to-face with a habituated mountain gorilla family — one of the most profound wildlife encounters on Earth. Fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas remain in the wild, found only in the Virunga Massif spanning Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC, and in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Treks are led by experienced trackers and rangers, last anywhere from thirty minutes to several hours depending on where the gorilla family is that day, and are capped at a small group size per permit to minimise stress on the gorillas. It is, for most guests, the single most anticipated moment of an East African safari.
